How to play the course
#1 PAR 4
433 YARDS
The fairway bunker on the left-hand side of the fairway must be avoided but favour this side to avoid being blocked out by the trees. With water short the ideal approach should be to the back portion of the green.
#2 PAR 4
459 YARDS
Aim down the right-hand side of the fairway to stay well away from the creek running down the left-hand side. A tricky green to hit. If you have enough loft aim for the middle of the green or if coming with a longer club, use the bentgrass approach to bounce onto the putting surface.
#3 PAR 4
412 YARDS
The left-hand side of the fairway is the perfect line, however do not be too safe as the creek far left can come into play. The trees will block out a drive down the right. The centre of the green is always the sensible play and being long and right can cause major difficulty.
#4 PAR 3
177 YARDS
This is the smallest green on the course. Aiming for the front portion of the green to avoid the river behind the green and the bent approach slopes left of the green. The bunker on the right is a safer play than going left.
#5 PAR 4
421 YARDS
A risk and reward driving hole where long and left leaves an easier approach, however the very brave can try and fly the trees on the right-hand side and cut the corner over the bunkers. This green has a unique, wide bent collar that will allow many shots to bounce onto the putting surface from both left and right. Take note of the slope as you may need an extra club and go at the pin.
#6 PAR 3
218 YARDS
A par 3 water left, long and right. Use the bentgrass approach area short to play safe. Do not go long! The green is very wide and will hold a high approach shot.
#7 PAR 5
535 YARDS
Water all down the right-hand side. Keep left with your tee shot and your approach. A relatively short Par 5, it is advised to resist temptation to cut the corner. Your 2nd shot should also favour the left-hand side avoiding the second landing area bunkers. Your approach shot will vary significantly depending on the pin position as this green has definite sections, divided by transition slopes. You should avoid the right-hand side of the green as a ball on the right can fall quickly towards the pond.
#8 PAR 4
472 YARDS
The toughest drive on the front 9. The creek on the left and pond in the right are both in play. Aim at the Manor House building in the distance. On approach that this green is very exposed so note the wind. The elevated green calls for a high approach to hold.
#9 PAR 5
633 YARDS
The longest hole on the course. You must avoid the fairway bunkers from the tee and on your 2nd shot. You must decide whether to play short or try to carry the bunkers from the tee. If brave and successful you will gain yards of roll. The 2nd shot is onto the widest fairway on the course and the Manor House building is the line. You cannot see the edges of this green and you should aim for the centre as this green complex features some of the most severe run off areas on the course.
#10 PAR 4
399 YARDS
An inviting drive to begin your back 9. Aim to split the bunkers. The green is very wide on the left-hand side and thin on the right. One of the toughest greens: do not be tempted to attack a back-right pin.
#11 PAR 3
224 YARDS
The only hole on the course without a bunker. This par 3 is guarded by the River Maigue down the right-hand side. The green has 2 definite sections, front and back. Club carefully and the bentgrass approach to a front pin is a sensible play.
#12 PAR 5
621 YARDS
A dogleg par 5. Aim your tee shot at the stone wall in the horizon, avoiding the large bunker on the left. You need to be aggressive on this 2nd shot as the green is much easier to hold with a shorter lofted club. Aim towards the front right bunker. The green is angled and there is more room to hold on the left-hand side.
#13 PAR 4
454 YARDS
Favour the left-hand side and take the fairway bunker out of play. This will also give the best view of the green for your approach. Front right of the green is the sensible play as this green falls from front to back.
#14 PAR 4
439 YARDS
Right side of centre is the perfect play so aim at the pretty round tree hugging the right side of the fairway. The back right should never be aimed at. Regardless of pin position the sensible play is the left-hand side of the green.
#15 PAR 4
347 YARDS
A driveable Par 4 if you dare. With real risk or reward, the river will catch any stray ball right and the sizeable bunker to the left of the green can leave a nerve wracking bunker shot. The safer option is to drive just short of the cross bunker on the left. Club selection is important as this is not a long layup. A ball too far left will be blocked out by the trees. The front half of the green is the safest play.
#16 PAR 3
157 YARDS
Par 3 with a green measuring 85 yards! The pin position changes the difficulty of the hole considerably. A front left pin can be attacked, however a pin on the right would be better played to the centre of the green. The angle of the green adds distance to the shot so an extra club is a sensible option.
#17 PAR 4
523 YARDS
Depending on tee box this hole can be the longest par 4 on the course. A drive down the left will feed back to the right. On the approach, a miss to the left leaves a much easier chip than a miss to the lower right, so favour the left half of the green.
#18 PAR 5
585 YARDS
The closing Par 5 requires a well hit tee shot favouring the right side of the fairway as the river guards the left. If you have the length you should always hit your 2nd shot over the river, onto the bent grass approach or for the brave to attack the green. If you play safe down the right-hand side, your 3rd shot needs to be precise. You must avoid the water at all costs, however it is very difficult to stop the ball on this green and if you do go long, a putt up the approach is the safer option.
